Hiking in Palm Springs for People Afraid of Heights
There are several hiking trails inside the city of Palm Springs or the neighboring towns. Almost all of these trails go up into the mountains and, for someone fearful of heights like myself, the paths are too scary to be enjoyable. For an interesting walk that doesn't go along mountain ridges, try the San Andreas Canyon Walk inside Indian Canyons. I also like Tahquitz Canyon Walk which climbs into the mountains but never along any steep drops, and ends at a beautiful waterfall. Another interesting walk can be found at the Thousand Palms Oasis. If you drive out of Palm Springs straight down Ramone Road to Thousand Palms, you will find this special walk with its own visitor center staffed by helpful docents. All three of these walks are loops walks and can be done in less than two hours time.
