Hiking in Palm Springs for People Afraid of Heights

There are several hiking trails inside the city of Palm Springs or the neighboring towns.   Almost all of these trails go up into the mountains and, for someone fearful of heights like myself, the paths are too scary to be enjoyable.  For an interesting walk that doesn't go along mountain ridges, try the San Andreas Canyon Walk inside Indian Canyons.   I also like Tahquitz Canyon Walk which climbs into the mountains but never along any steep drops, and ends at a beautiful waterfall.   Another interesting walk can be found at the Thousand Palms Oasis.  If you drive out of Palm Springs straight down Ramone Road to Thousand Palms, you will find this special walk with its own visitor center staffed by helpful docents.  All three of these walks are loops walks and can be done in less than two hours time.

Bienvenido...

Situated in a complex of four“casitas,” "La Casa de las Toronjas" (the House of the Grapefruits) is hidden from the street and representative of small garden apartment complexes once found throughout much of the American southwest. A local interior designer furnished the property, creating a comfortable, masculine ambiance, evocative of the Mediterranean and old Spanish California. The property is one-story: there are no steps anywhere on the complex except in and out of the pool/spa. The "casa" has a microwave, two televisions with cable, DVD and CD player, two bedrooms with king size beds and two bathrooms with safety grab bars in the tub/showers. There is wireless and unlimited free phone service anywhere in the U.S. The condo has its own private patio. The visuals are Bougainvillea, the moon, fallen grapefruit, and the dry, silent Jacinto Mountain standing guard. I think of this place as a place to create or heal, to read or write and invent or trade stories. I like the fact that the pool is 8 feet deep at the deep end and the pool is at the rear of the property affording much privacy.  Please note that normally the pool and spa are not heated; however nearby hotels offer day passes to use their heated pools for a fee.  La Casa de las Toronjas is located in a safe neighborhood, surrounded by boutique hotels and historic homes and a short walk, about five blocks, to the heart of downtown Palm Springs. Palm Springs itself is a little town situated at the base of mountains and filled with distinctive architecture including Mediterranean, Southwest and mid-century modern homes, fine restaurants and interesting shops. If you are looking for something intimate, quiet, private and charming from where you can walk to downtown in a few minutes, this is the place.   Note: Minimum of two week rental period required.

mediterranean palm trees dancing beneath the desert stars

December 2013 and our little condo complex looks wonderful.  What recently use to be an unsightly open plot of dirt by the pool equipment is being transformed into a wonderful shaded lounge area with a blood orange tree, honeysuckle and a handsome wooden canopy that will soon find company with some nice outdoor furniture.  The unhealthy kumquat trees in front have been replaced with intriguing desert plants and new lighting.   The flowering pear trees on each side of the car ports look wonderful, showing off their change-of-season colors.  The cobalt blue ceramic pots along the pool provide a wonderful visual to the water and sky.
Tout est très bien, monsieur!
